Troubleshooting
Computers can be tricky! Here are some common issues with
possible solutions. If you don't see your problem listed
here, please contact the administrator to resolve
the issue.
Which stream should I
choose?
This depends on your connection.
1) If you're using a dialup modem to
connect to the internet, the low-quality stream will
provide the smoothest playback with a slight quality
reduction.
2) If you're using a high-speed connecton
such as DSL or cable, select the high-quality stream.
3) If you're not sure how you connect to
the internet, try using the high-quality stream. If the
audio breaks up and your player continually stops to
rebuffer the stream, try the low-quality stream.
What media player should I
use?
iTunes is the most reliable and easiest to use media player
for both Apple and PC computers. You can download it
here. There is a wealth of
documentation pertaining to the installation and use
of iTunes available on Apple's website. When using
iTunes, once the stream has fully downloaded, it will
open up automatically and being playing. If it doesn't
automatically play the stream, simply drag the
listen.pls icon into the iTunes window.
If you prefer to use Windows media player, there are may be
a few additional steps involved. Once the stream has
downloaded, windows media player may not be configured to
begin automatic playback. If this is the case, locate the
downloaded file (listen.pls) on your desktop, or
wherever you choose to download your files. Click the
listen.pls file with the right mouse button. A menu should
pop up with an option to "open with" a specific
application. From the "open with" submenu, find windows
media player and select it. From there, the stream should
begin to play automatically.
The stream frequently
pauses to rebuffer
Your Internet connection is not fast enough to support the
high-quality stream. Try the low-quality stream for
smoother playback.
I can't hear the WSUiR
stream
This could be due to a number of issues.
1) First, make sure your speakers or headphones are
properly connected to your computer (it sounds simple, but
we've all done it!). To test your audio connection, try
playing different type of media from your computer (e.g. a
CD, DVD, or any application that makes sound).
2) Once you have established that your speakers are
functioning properly, confirm that your media player is
attempting to play the stream. Find the listen.pls file on
your computer and drag the listen.pls file onto your media
player of choice.
3) If you're still not hearing sound, it is most likely an
issue with the WSUiR server that we are working to correct.
Occasionally, the server goes down for maintenance, but it
is usually back within hours.
